OK OK OK I was just joking with the Comic Sans. Ikea is really more of a Papyrus kind of brand, don't you think?

Projected Ikea 2015 Brand Character

Well, it happened. Ikea changed something and everyone is FREAKING OUT. The big news: Ikea has dropped their signature Futura for Verdana. In print even.

The rationale behind the switch is that while Futura is great and all, it lacks Asian characters, and Ikea wishes to maintain a consistent look around the world, and since well just EVERYONE has Verdana as a default on their computer, clearly that’s the best possible design decision. Way better than like, Helvetica. But seems to me like things are looking just fine with the old Futura model:

I dig what they’ve done with the Chinese and Arabic type, seems pretty on-par with the brand to me. But what do I know? Maybe it was time to concede the font to Kmart after all.
