ArtLens Exhibition

ArtLens Exhibition: turning visitors into co-creators of meaning

The Cleveland Museum of Art wanted to move beyond passive viewing and help guests explore what makes art, art. Together, we reimagined ArtLens Exhibition as a playful digital gallery that uses sensors and a connected mobile app to teach visitors how to look closely, think critically, and enjoy moments of simple fun and exploration.

Visitors step into an immersive projection environment where artworks respond in real time—scaling up to reveal hidden details or shrinking down to reframe perspective. Full-body gesture, facial recognition, and even gaze tracking turn natural human movement into interaction. Guests can point, mimic, and react, and the exhibition responds—making moments that feel more like play than instruction.

Our approach to this exhibit incorporates full-body interaction, immersive projection, and mobile connectivity allowing visitors' physical actions in front of digital artworks to align with their behavior in real galleries.

Gesture & gaze-driven design: Full-body gesture, facial recognition, and gaze tracking let guests interact without touching screens.

Immersive projection: Large-scale projection surrounds visitors, allowing both monumental works and fine details to be experienced up close.

Real-time sync: Bluetooth integration connected personal devices to the experience for take-home learning and sharing.

Future-ready build: Modular design makes content refreshes simple, keeping the exhibition relevant over time.
