Cummins

A short look back. A long look forward. Transforming a museum with a bygone story into a futuristic experience fit for true innovators.

Cummins Inc. has been innovating and servicing power solutions for over 100 years, from engines to generators and beyond. The company began a multi-year renovation to its corporate office building. The project included a complete overhaul of its lobby museum, which was mostly untouched since the 80s, to better leverage their long legacy into the future for employees, customers and their community.

Cummins selected Hyperquake to create a bespoke interactive experience for the space and weave the unique Cummins story throughout every touchpoint, bringing to life a compelling storyline that could be told within the context of the modernist building design — including chapters about what's to come from the company.

500+
engine parts assembled by Cummins employees in 1985
Imagined and designed by the late graphic designer Rudolph de Harak, the exploded engine features more than 500 unique engine parts. Assembled entirely by Cummins employees in 1985, this installation is a revered and iconic piece of art. Hyperquake advised repositioning this structure at the entrance to showcase its craftsmanship and honor the company’s history. In its new home with overhead lighting, it creates an immediate wow moment for guests when they arrive.
We evolved the space not just physically, but thematically. What had once focused on the past needed to focus on the future — specifically Cummins' expanding portfolio of innovations.
The project quickly evolved from a museum-style exhibit into an immersive, 360-degree lobby experience. The space now serves as a story of what's to come, told in the fitting context of modernist building design.

We showcased Cummins' commitment to beauty and art in its communities by creating artful moments with engines.
